NEW DELHI : Sonia Gandhi will release a memoir, Belonging, on November 10, recounting her relationship with her late husband Rajiv Gandhi and the experiences that shaped her life and connection with India, according to an announcement by publisher HarperCollins India.

In a video message shared on social media, Gandhi recalled the beginning of their relationship in Cambridge, England.

“In a small Greek restaurant in Cambridge my journey of love began,” she wrote in the accompanying post.

She said she and Rajiv had built a life filled with love, laughter and memories, adding that she would share that world with readers on November 10.

HarperCollins India described the book as a personal account of the people, relationships and moments that shaped Gandhi’s life, exploring themes of family, identity, duty and belonging.

Gandhi met Rajiv while studying English in Cambridge and moved to India to marry him in 1968. He was the grandson of India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and the son of then-prime minister Indira Gandhi.

The couple had two children, Rahul and Priyanka.

Their family life was transformed by political upheaval and personal loss. Rajiv became prime minister following his mother’s assassination in 1984 and was himself assassinated in 1991.

Sonia Gandhi later entered politics and went on to lead the Indian National Congress.

The publisher’s announcement places the memoir’s focus on her private life and the relationships behind her public role.
