KOTTAYAM : A vigilance court in Kerala on Thursday sentenced retired Director General of Police Tomin J Thachankary to four years in prison after finding him guilty in a long-running disproportionate assets case.
The Kottayam Vigilance Court also imposed a fine of ₹30.84 lakh on the former senior police officer.
Vigilance Public Prosecutor K.K. Sreekanth said the court viewed the offence seriously given Thachankary’s position as a police officer entrusted with upholding the law.
“The court found that a police officer who is supposed to safeguard the public accumulating disproportionate assets is a grievous offence,” Sreekanth said after the sentencing.
He said the verdict demonstrated that everyone was equal before the law, adding that the investigation had been challenging because Thachankary was a high-ranking police officer.
