New Delhi: Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced a massive investment of ₹70,000 crore (around USD 8 billion) in India over the next five to six years, underscoring the country’s growing importance in the Japanese automaker’s global strategy.
The fresh commitment will be directed towards expanding production capacity, introducing new models, and strengthening the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. A key focus will be Suzuki’s Gujarat facility, which is set to become one of the largest car manufacturing hubs in the world with the capacity to produce up to one million vehicles annually.
At the heart of this expansion is the launch of the e-VITARA, Suzuki’s first global battery-electric vehicle, which is being built in India for both domestic use and export to more than 100 countries. Alongside this, the company has partnered with Denso and Toshiba to begin local manufacturing of lithium-ion cells, a move aimed at ensuring long-term EV sustainability and reducing import dependence.
Speaking at the unveiling of the e-VITARA, Suzuki Motor Corporation President Toshihiro Suzuki highlighted India’s central role in the company’s global growth. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s longstanding support for the automaker’s expansion, recalling cooperation that began during Modi’s tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister.
The investment aligns with India’s broader goals of “Make in India” and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and is expected to create significant opportunities in advanced manufacturing, green mobility, and exports.
