Kapil Dev says selectors, players must strengthen India’s bowling ahead of 2027 World Cup

Kapil Dev placed the responsibility for addressing the issue with those selecting the team and the players themselves.

MUMBAI : Former India captain Kapil Dev said on Friday that selectors and players must take responsibility for strengthening the country’s bowling attack ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, suggesting that youngsters increasingly favour batting.

Asked whether India’s bowling unit needed to be strengthened before the tournament, Kapil pointed to what he described as a preference for batting over the demands of bowling.

“What can anyone do? Everyone wants to be a batsman,” he said. “In cricket, they say the batsman is an officer while the bowler is a worker. What can you do? Everyone wants to work in an air-conditioned room.”

Kapil placed the responsibility for addressing the issue with those selecting the team and the players themselves.

Former captain Kapil Dev urged selectors and players to prioritize India's bowling development for the 2027 World Cup, lamenting the trend of aspiring cricketers favoring batting over bowling roles.
