MUSCAT — Oman has doubled the allocation for its wage support programme to 100 million rials ($260 million) following a directive from Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Council of Ministers said on Tuesday.

The scheme is designed to encourage private sector hiring by subsidising part of the salaries of Omani employees. Officials said the move aligns with efforts to strengthen the labour market and advance the country’s Vision 2040 economic diversification plan.

The government also called for improvements to the national employment platform Tawteen, launched in December 2024, urging more companies to register and better integration of job market data to match vacancies with jobseekers.
