South Korea sees growth in trade despite low exports and imports

South Korea posted a trade surplus of $500 million in the first 20 days of July, despite a year-on-year decline in both exports and imports, according to data released by the Korea Customs Service.

Exports fell by 2.2 percent, totaling $36.1 billion from July 1 to 20, compared to $36.9 billion during the same period last year, Yonhap News Agency reported. The drop reflects ongoing global demand fluctuations and economic uncertainties impacting outbound shipments.

Meanwhile, imports also declined, dropping 4.3 percent year-on-year to $35.6 billion. The sharper decrease in imports allowed the country to maintain a trade surplus of $500 million during the period.
