ALGIERS : Algeria said on Thursday it had decided to sever diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, accusing Abu Dhabi of a series of “provocative or hostile” actions despite repeated warnings.
Algeria’s foreign ministry said the UAE’s actions had reached a point where they could no longer be considered acceptable, adding that Algiers had “exhausted all means of preserving bilateral relations”.
The ministry said the Emirati ambassador had been summoned and formally informed of the decision. The envoy was given 48 hours to comply with the measure.
There was no immediate response from the UAE.
Relations between Algeria and the UAE have become increasingly strained in recent years, with the two countries taking differing positions on several regional and geopolitical issues.
The decision marks a significant escalation in tensions between Algiers and Abu Dhabi and brings formal diplomatic relations between the two Arab states to an end.
