US President Trump’s approval rating hits lowest of his 2nd term

U.S. President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to 40%, the lowest level of his second term.

The results reveal a stark partisan split
83% of Republicans still back Trump, compared to just 3% of Democrats. Among independents, support stands at roughly one-third.

According to a nationwide poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos, Trump’s approval rating dipped to 40%, down from 41% in mid-July. The survey, carried out over three days and involving 1,023 U.S. adults, highlights a nation increasingly divided over the president’s leadership, particularly as the 2025 political landscape heats up.

The results reveal a stark partisan split: 83% of Republicans still back Trump, compared to just 3% of Democrats. Among independents, support stands at roughly one-third.

Immigration, once considered a pillar of Trump’s strength, has become a growing point of contention. While nearly half of Americans approved of his immigration policy in March, that figure has since slid. A separate CNN/SSRS poll shows 55% of Americans now believe Trump has gone too far in deporting undocumented immigrants—up 10 points since February.

Economic approval ratings have seen a modest uptick, with 38% backing Trump’s performance in this area, compared to 35% earlier this month. Yet, according to CNN’s findings, most Americans still feel his policies haven’t delivered tangible benefits during his second term—unlike the relatively stronger ratings he enjoyed during his first.

The dual dip in economic and immigration approval appears to be driving down Trump’s overall numbers, as voters reassess his key campaign promises and their real-world impact.
