PM Modi’s Oman visit to focus on trade, investment and energy cooperation

Talks expected to advance CEPA, boost bilateral investment and deepen ties in logistics, renewables and manufacturing

Muscat – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Oman is expected to place strong emphasis on economic cooperation, with both countries seeking to deepen trade, investment and energy ties amid growing momentum in bilateral relations.

Officials and business leaders say the visit will centre on advancing the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), expanding investment flows and unlocking new opportunities across key sectors including energy, logistics, manufacturing, renewables and technology.

India and Oman have steadily strengthened economic engagement in recent years, with bilateral trade rising and cooperation expanding beyond traditional hydrocarbons into green energy, infrastructure, food security and digital services. Oman is viewed as a strategic gateway for Indian companies to the Gulf and Africa, supported by its ports, free zones and investor-friendly reforms under Vision 2040.

The visit is also expected to reinforce cooperation in the energy sector, where Oman remains a key supplier of crude oil to India, while both sides explore partnerships in green hydrogen, renewable energy and downstream industries. Indian public and private sector firms have already increased their presence in Oman’s industrial and logistics hubs, including Duqm, Sohar and Salalah.

Business chambers and investors anticipate announcements aimed at encouraging greater private-sector participation, easing market access and promoting joint ventures, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises. Enhanced financial cooperation and smoother cross-border investment mechanisms are also expected to feature in discussions.

For India, Oman remains a stable and strategic economic partner in the Gulf, while for Oman, India represents a major source of investment, skilled manpower and long-term demand. Analysts say the visit could provide a fresh push to economic ties, aligning India’s growth ambitions with Oman’s diversification drive.

The visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to strengthen economic resilience, attract foreign investment and position themselves as regional hubs for trade and connectivity.
